I'm not sure I remember how blogging works.

All my online socializing skills have been eaten by social media. What am I going to write in this post except "hello, here I am, I'm trying to use Dreamwidth again!"? Is this site even mobile optimized? Are people even using blogging platforms from their desktop computers?

Am I going to tell that world that I'm sitting at home with a cold right now, that it's a week until Christmas and I haven't finished all the presents for my bf? Or that I'd rather be working on that too-long gen fic about a locked-room murder mystery set in pre-Dagor-Bragollach Doriath? That I worry about having lost my drawing skills again, but don't have enough time to practice properly? Even posting a blog entry without f-lock feels utterly weird.

So I'd rather stop typing and wait for things to come. And if anyone actually read all this: Well, hello, here I am, it's nice to talk to you!

Hello:) It is interesting how, after being used to just keeping one's mouth shut on Tumblr so the kids won't jump on you for some reason or another, the old style of blogging now feels rather moany and complainy. Perhaps it taught us the value of re-focusing our energies on just the things we love? IDK. But I am glad to have met you on there (Christ, imagine if Fan Mail had never existed--I would never have talked to *several* readers who didn't feel like discussing taboo fics in the Ao3 comments!) and I am glad to call you my friend. *Hugs* Will see if I can ping you on WhatsApp later tonight, after I'm finished with today's adulting.

Yeah, I haven't done old-school blogging since... 2011 or so? Back then I had a LJ where I posted some Star Trek stuff and also made a few RL-posts. Afterwards, all I did was either just Tumblr or completely friends-locked LJing until that died down as well.

Tumblr was actually really nice to get into contact with other people in a low-key way - but without a proper message system like fanmail it wouldn't have been possible to form actual friendships! I have no idea how that's supposed to work now with just the comments/reblogs and the stupid instant messenger system!

Just ping me once you're done with the RL stuff! Although - as I said on Tumblr earlier - I'll only have time until 7pm - I hope that's not too early for you?
